Father José Maria Neuenhofer
Father José Maria Neuenhofer was born in Germany and grew up during World War II and its aftermath. After becoming ordained, he served three years as a priest in Argentina before returning to Germany from 1968 until 1993, which is when he moved to Bolivia – the poorest country in South America – to serve the poor. The following year, he was pronounced advisor of homeless children that live in the streets of the Archdioceses of La Paz.
To accomplish this mission, he established Fundación Arco Iris (Bolivia's counterpart to Arco Iris America) and has dedicated his life to improving the lives of street children ever since. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Rottweil (Germany) for over 40 years, and served four years as its president. Among other honors, Father José was named Bolivia’s Person of the Year in 2009.
